Jersey is an island and the sea is never far away. Clear water and beaches surround some 45 miles of coastline – Jersey’s greatest natural treasure – and a comprehensive network of footpaths enables the visitor to walk the majority of the islands perimeter.

The wide sandy bays in the south are perfect for water sports such as canoeing, wake boarding, water skiing, jet skiing and windsurfing, whilst the rocky bays in the north have superb sheltered diving sites and excellent fishing. The water off the south-eastern coast is relatively calm and shallow, so good for the less experienced swimmer and also for children, whilst the west coast, with waves that haven’t touched land for 3,000 miles is a haven for surfers! Dramatic cliffs in the north offer spectacular scenery and stunning vistas. Source Jersey Tourism : Take a Late break in Jersey.

Jersey Weekend Breaks

Whether you are seeking high culture in the form of the performing arts, art galleries, potteries or local crafts, Jersey offers the visitor a rich array of artistic possibilities. The Island's craft shops are situated out of town in attractive country and coastal settings. All privately owned, they are interesting to visit and provide an excellent source of ideas for gifts and mementoes.

The greatest concentration of people live in St. Helier whose busy streets, squares, lanes and pedestrianised areas create a pleasant atmosphere for
browsing and buying. During the summer, St.Helier comes alive with a varied and original programme of street entertainment. Jersey hotels are very busy at this time so booking in advance is advisable.

Celebrate Jersey’s most beloved of animals – the Jersey Cow - by visiting the life size bronze of a group of Jersey cattle recently commissioned that is situated in West Square. Or pass a leisurely morning by stimulating your senses at the central market – housed in an ornate glass-roofed building where you can find fresh fruit and vegetables, fine butchers, bakers and delicatessens. The Beresford Fish Market next door was established in 1842 and all of Jersey’s fine fish and seafood can be found there – but you must get up early, the catch comes in at 7:30 am!

When done with shopping, amuse yourself at the Jersey Opera House or the Jersey Arts Centre two of many venues showing first rate theatrical and musical productions, or spend an evening enjoying the visiting bands and artists in Howard Davies Park. Remember to check out the current events – you might be lucky and be in town in time to enjoy one of Jersey’s 25 major festivals.

Jersey has everything that is ideal for a family holiday - safe, clean beaches, country walks, attractions and sports that appeal to all ages and restaurants that make children feel at home.

In addition to acres of clean, white sand, Jersey has a number of world-class attractions that will appeal to the younger crowd. Jersey Zoo, headquarters of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, is set in 31 acres and named after its founder Gerald Durrell. It is internationally famed for its work in saving and breeding endangered species.

Two other award-winning museums, the Jersey and the Maritime, have interesting exhibits giving children and adults alike a glimpse of Jersey’s past and its rich maritime history. The unique living museum at Hamptonne re-creates life as it was lived in the last century.

For those keen to have a day out with a difference, visit the Living legend with its multi-media show, adventure playground and live entertainment. Or why not let a glow-worm light up your day by joining a guided walk. Ten-pin bowling is always popular with kids or you could take your family for a little train ride around St. Aubin’s Bay.

In Jersey we make your enjoyment our business which is why the island offers so much in the form of entertainment. From high culture to unadulterated fun Jersey has it all. The Jersey Opera House, Jersey Arts Centre and St James are three venues that show first rate theatrical and musical productions and play host to some exciting artists and performers from around the world. Musical recitals, poetry readings, dance performances, art exhibitions – all manner of fascinating events, all year round, for young and old.

In addition to the 190 restaurants on the island, there are 11 discotheques and discobars and many hotels also provide facilities for dancing and stage their own cabarets, some with admission to the general public. Check out the events calendar or look at the Major International Festivals – 25 opportunities for further, colourful and lively entertainment. Whatever your tastes and interest, let us entertain you in Jersey this year! Source - Jersey Tourism
