General Information

Insurers
This insurance has been arranged by the Travel Trust Association Ltd and your TTA Member; who are independent intermediaries for selling general insurance. The insurance is provided by AIG Europe (UK) Ltd., general agents for New Hampshire Insurance Company, who are members of the Association of British Insurers and the Insurance Ombudsman Bureau.

Holiday tips
  1. Check that the tap water is safe to drink. Unless you know it is safe, always drink bottled water and avoid ice in your drinks and ice cream.
  2. The sun on holiday can be much more powerful than you are used to at home. To prevent sunburn and sunstroke, do not stay out in strong sunlight between 11AM and 3PM. And, always wear sun cream.
  3. Think before you dive. Check the depths of swimming pools and the sea and only dive in if you are sure that the water is deep enough.
  4. Please ask and follow local advice on health and safety in your resort area.
  5. Do not pack valuables, money and important documents in the baggage that you check in at the airport. keep them with you at all times during your journey.
  6. Do not take more cash than you need. Use traveller's cheques if possible and use safety deposit boxes whenever they are available.
  7. If you are taking particularly valuable items on holiday, you should insure them under the "all risks section" of a household contents insurance.
  8. Never leave your belongings unattended or with strangers, particularly at airports and on the beach, or in vehicles.
  9. Leave in plenty of time to get to the airport, port or train station before the check in time shown.
  10. Make sure that all passports, visas, vaccinations and health requirements are up to date and be sure to take all the documents you need with you.

Health agreements
When you are travelling to a European Union Country, you should collect a form El 11 from your local post office. If you need treatment, you should present this at the time of treatment as it may save you paying the £40 policy excess from any claim under Section A (Medical and otherexpenses).

When you are travelling to Australia or New Zealand and you have to go to hospital, you must register for treatmer under the national Medicare scheme of those countries. you do not do this, we may not be able to pay your claim. If you are in any doubt as to how to collect a form El 11 0 register for the Medicare scheme, please contact the JT Help line on 0870 737 3307 who will be able to help you.

Important Information

Contract of travel insurance
This is your contract of insurance. It contains certain conditions and exclusions in each section and general conditions and exclusions applying to all the sections. Yc must meet these conditions or we may not accept your claim.

Eligible persons
Individual, spouse, partner, and family, dependent upon the applicable premium has been paid, whilst travelling together. Children may travel without insured adults and be covered provided they meet up with parents, relatives or adult friends to whom they have been entrusted, upon arrival at their non-stop destination.

Health
Your insurance contains conditions that relate to your health and the health of others who might not be travellir with you but whose well-being your trip may depend on. particular we do not automatically cover medical problems which you or they had before the cover started See sections A, B and H. If you do have medical problems coverage may be obtainable, contact the TTA Help line on 0870 737 3307.

Your belongings
Many claims for loss or theft are caused by people being careless with their belongings. If you do not take good care of your belongings, it can be upsetting and inconvenient for you and we may not pay your claim.

Excesses
Under most sections of this insurance you have to pay t~ first part of any claim (an excess). This amount is shown under each of the sections where it applies.

Dangerous Activities
You may not be covered when you take part in certain sports or activities if there is a high risk you will be injure We may cover certain activities if you pay an extra premium. You must check the General Exclusions sectic to verify this insurance meets your needs. If you have further doubts about coverage of specific activities conta the TTA Help line on 0870 737 3307:

Premium refund If this insurance does not meet your needs, your TTA Member will refund your money as long as you return this document to them within 14 days of receiving it. The TJA Member will only refund your money as long as you have not travelled or made a claim. Beyond 14 days the premium will not be transferable or refundable.

Law
This insurance will be governed by English Law unless we agree otherwise.

Definitions

Wherever the following words or phrases appear in this policy they will always have the meanings shown under them.

Business associate
Any person who works at your place of business and who, if you were both away from work at the same time, would prevent the business from running properly.

Permanent total disability
A disability which prevents you from working in any job and which lasts 12 months. And, at the end of those 12 months, is in our medical adviser's opinion, not going to improve. This benefit does not apply for persons who are 65 years of age or older.

Policy Certificate
The document showing the names and other details of all the people insured under this insurance. The schedule proves you have the cover shown in this document. (Also referred to as the Certificate)

Public transport
Using train, bus or coach services to join the booked holiday.

Relative
Husband, wife, parent, parent-in-law, brother sister, son, daughter, fiance, fiancee, grandparent, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, stepparent, step-child, step-brother, or step-sister.

Ski equipment
Skis, poles, boots and bindings, snow boards or Ice skates.

Trip
Your holiday or journey starting at the time that you lea' your home address or from the start date shown on yoL schedule, whichever is later. The end of your trip is defined as the date that you return to the United Kingdc or Channel Islands or at the end of the period shown or your schedule, whichever is earlier. Cover under Sectio H (Cancelling and cutting short your holiday) starts at t~ time that you book the trip or pay the insurance premiur whichever is later.

Note re Annual Cover
Cover under section H (Cancemng and cutting short your holiday) starts from the start date shown on your scheduj or at the time that you book the trip, whichever is later. Cover under section H (Cancelling and cutting short your holiday) is valid for trips booked dudng the period shown on your schedule for trips starting up to 120 days from th end of the period shown on your schedule. However, you must renew your policy when it ends. Cover is valid for 1~ months from the start date shown on your schedule to provide cover for travel as shown.


Valuable items
Photographic, audio, video and electrical equipment of any kind (including CDs, video, computer games and audio tapes), telescopes and binoculars, antiques, jewellery, watches, furs, perfumes, leather goods, anim, skins, silks, precious stones and articles made of or containing gold, silver or precious metals.

Each insured person named on the schedule issued wit~ this document. Each person must be travelling from the United kingdom or Channel Islands and have paid the appropriate premium.

Annual multi-trip
If you have purchased annual multi-trip cover, this gives you cover for travel as many times as you like during thE period of insurance. No single trip may last longer than 6 days. We also provide cover for up to 17 days of winter sports.

Individual trip
Please remember that it does not matter how long you buy cover for, it ends when you return to home in the United Kingdom or Channel Islands. If you want to extend your insurance please call 0181 8764458 before the period shown on your Certificate ends.

Geographical areas
Area A The United kingdom and Channel Islands. Area B The Continent of Europe West of the Ural mountains including its neighboring islands and non-European countries bordering the Mediterranean. Area C Rest of the world.

Note: We only provide cover for travel wi£hin the United Kingdom or Channel Islands if you stay for at least one night in pre-booked accommodation away from where you usually live.

Medical and other emergencies 24-hour emergency service

AIG Europe Assistance Services will provide immediate help if you are ill or injured outside the United kingdom or Channel Islands. They provide a 24-hour emergency service 365 days a year and you can contact them on:

When you contact AIG Europe Assistance Services, you will need to say that you are a TTA Client and give the following information:
Your name, Your address, Your phone number abroad, Your schedule number shown on your Certificate.
Hospital treatment abroad
If you go into hospital abroad and you are likely to be in hospital for more than 24 hours, someone must contact AIG Europe Assistance Services for you immediately. If they do not, this could mean we will provide no cover or we reduce the amount we pay for medical expenses.

If you receive medical treatment abroad as an outpatient of a value less than £100 (one hundred), you should pay the hospital or clinic and claim back your medical expenses from AIG Europe Claims Services when you return to the United kingdom or Channel Islands. In order to receive medical treatment abroad as an outpatient of a value more than £100 (one hundred) then someone must contact AIG Europe Assistance Services immediately for approval. If they do not this could mean we will provide nc cover or we will reduce the amount we pay for medical expenses.

Returning early to the United Kingdom or Channel Islands
If you have to return to the United kingdom or Channel Islands under section A (Medical and other expenses), section B (Sending you home in an emergency) or sectior H (Cancelling and cutting short your holiday) AIG Europe Assistance Services must authorise this. If they do not, this could mean that we will not provide cover or we may reduce the amount we pay for your return to the United kingdom or Channel Islands.

This is not a private medical insurance. If you need any medical treatment, you must tell AIG Europe Assistance Services immediately or we may not guarantee medical expenses. If you need any medical treatment, you must allow AIG Europe Assistance Services or their representatives to see all of your medical records and in formation.

Important claims information

Medical claims
If you receive medical attention for an injury or sickness, you must get a medical certificate showing the nature of the injury or sickness together with any bills which you should have paid.

Claims for delay, loss or damage to money, personal belongings, baggage, etc.
You must tell the relevant transport company about any delay, loss or damage to personal belongings if they are being carried by any airline or transport company. You must also get a property irregularity report. If you do not tell the airline or transport company within three days of the event, we may not be able to pay your claim. You must report immediately any loss of money or loss or damage to personal belongings to the police (and hotel management if this applies). You must also get an official written report. If you do not tell the police (and hotel management if this applies) within 24 hours of the event, we may not be able to pay your claim.

General
You must send any claim to AIG Europe Claims Services within 31 days of your trip ending. If you do not, we may not be able to pay your claim. If you need to make a claim, please either write with a brief description of your claim or phone:

The Insurance

General conditions
The following conditions apply to this insurance.
  1. Your trip must depart from the United kingdom or Channel Islands.
  2. You must tell AIG Europe if you know about anything which may affect their decision to accept your insurance (for example, dangerous activities or a health condition). If you are not sure whether to tell AIG Europe, tell them anyway.
  3. We will not pay for any loss or damage caused as a result of your not acting in a reasonable way to look after your property.
  4. You must take all reasonable steps to get back any lost or stolen articles and you must help the authorities in their efforts to catch and prosecute any guilty people.
  5. You must take all reasonable steps to avoid or reduce any loss which may mean that you have to make a claim under this insurance.
  6. You must keep to all the terms, conditions and endorsements of this insurance. If you do not, we may turn down your claim.
  7. You must help us get back any money that we have paid from anyone or from other insurers (including the Department of Social Security) by giving us all the details we need and by filling in any forms.
  8. If you try to make a fraudulent claim or use any fraudulent means in trying to make a claim, you may be prosecuted and we will not cover your claim.
  9. You must give AIG Europe Claims Services all the documents they need to deal with any claim. You will be responsible for any costs involved in doing this.
  10. You must keep any articles which are damaged and send them to AIG Europe Claims Services if they ask. You must pay any costs involved in doing this.
  11. You must agree to have a medical examination if we ask. If you die, we are entitled to have a post mortem examination. You or your legal representatives are responsible for any costs resulting from these examinations.
  12. You must pay us back, within one month of asking, any amounts that we have paid to you which are not covered by this insurance.

General exclusions
We will not cover the following.
  1. Any claim arising from or resulting from, a trip that you take or, any person who your travel depends on if:
    1. the claim relates to a medical condition or any illness related to a medical condition which you or they knew about before you bought this insurance, unless you have declared that condition to AIG Europe and we have accepted that condition for insurance and any additional premium quoted by the screening service has been paid to cover that condition;
    2. you are travelling against medical advice:
    3. you are travelling to receive medical advice or treatment;
    4. you are on a hospital waiting list waiting for treatment; or
    5. you have been given a terminal diagnosis.
  2. Loss or damage directly or indirectly caused by war, terrorism, revolution or any similar event or any Government, public or local authority legally taking or damaging your property.
  3. Any claim arising from or as a result of civil commotions or riots of any kind.
  4. Loss, or damage to any property, or any loss, expense or liability arising from:
    1. ionising radiation or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel or from any nuclear waste from the burning of nuclear fuel; or
    2. the radioactive, toxic, explosive or other dangerous properties of any explosive nuclear equipment or any part of it.
  5. Any claim under Section G (Personal belongings, baggage and money) if you already have a more specific insurance covering this, except in excess of that more specific coverage.
  6. You, if at the time of loss, damage or liability arising under this insurance there is any other insurance covering the same loss, damage or liability. In this case we will only pay our share.
  7. Loss, destruction or damage directly caused by pressure waves resulting from any aircraft or other flying object travelling at or above the speed of sound.
  8. Any claim arising from you being in, or entering, or leaving any aircraft other than as a fare-paying passenger in a fully-licensed passenger-carrying aircraft.
  9. Any claim arising from using a two-wheeled motor vehicle over 125 cc.(On payment of an additional premium of 25% by you and where such option is marked on the Certificate, losses arising from using a two-wheeled motor vehicle over 125cc will be covered as long as you are wearing a crash helmet and in possession of a valid licence permitting the riding of that class of motor vehicle).
  10. Any other loss connected to the event you are claiming for unless we provide cover under this insurance.
  11. Any claim arising directly or indirectly from financial problems, except financial failure of airline.
  12. Any claim resulting from the tour operator, airline or any other company, firm or person becoming insolvent, or being unable or unwilling to fulfil any part of their obligation. (This does not apply under section R (Scheduled airline failure) or the section entitle Safe Seat Plan (Fidelity Insurance) of this insurance and these claims are covered.)
  13. Any claim arising or resulting from you being involved in any illegal or criminal act.
  14. Racing of any kind (except on foot).
  15. Winter sports (unless we provide cover as shown on your Certificate).
  16. Any claim arising or resulting from championships, or heats, or officially-organised practice, or training for these events, ski-jumping, ice hockey, or using skeletons or bobsleighs, mountaineering (if this involves using ropes), pot holing, motor rallies, motor competitions, hot-air ballooning, parachuting, gliding or any equipment used for these events. (On payment of an additional premium of 25% by you and where such option is marked on the Certificate, losses arising from or resulting from championships, or heats, or officially-organised practice, or training for these events, ski-jumping, ice hockey, or using skeletons or bobsleighs, mountaineering (if this involves using ropes) pot holing, motor rallies, motor competitions, hot-air ballooning, parachuting, gliding or any equipment used for these events will be covered.
  17. Any claim arising or resulting from depression, anxiety, mental strain, stress related, depressive illness of any type, suicide or attempted suicide or injuring yourself deliberately or putting yourself in danger (unless you are trying to save a human life).
  18. Any claim resulting from you being under the influence of or in connection with the use of alcohol or drugs unless prescribed by a doctor.

Sections of insurance

Section A - Medical and other expenses

(This section does not apply for trips within the United Kingdom, except for trips to the Channel Islands).

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£10,000,000) in the schedule for the following for necessary and reasonable costs as a result of you being injured or ill during your trip.
  1. Emergency medical, surgical and hospital treatment. (Emergency dental treatment is covered up to £200 as long as it is to immediately relieve pain only.)
  2. Up to £2,500 for either the cost of returning your body or ashes to the United Kingdom or Channel Islands, or for the cost of a funeral in the country where you die if this is different from the country where you normally live.
  3. Extra accommodation and travel expenses to allow you to return to the United Kingdom or Channel Islands if you cannot return as you originally booked provided this has been approved by us.
    • Extra accommodation for someone to stay with you and travel home with you.
    • Or expenses for one relative or friend to travel from the United Kingdom or Channel Islands to stay with you and travel home with you, if this is necessary due to medical advice.
  4. The extra cost for you to return home following the death, serious injury or serious illness of a relative or business colleague or travelling companion.

Section B - Sending you home in an emergency
(This section does not apply for trips within the United Kingdom, except for trips to the Channel Islands).

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£10,000,000) in the schedule to return you to the United kingdom or Channel Islands if AIG Europe Assistance Services think this is medically necessary, and they arrange this for you.

Special exclusions which apply to sections A and B

What you are not covered for (applying to sections A and B)
We will not cover the following.
  1. The first £40 of each claim, for each person, except for claims under section A (Medical and other expenses) only if you have a refund of the cost under the terms of the EC reciprocal health agreement (El 11)).
  2. Any treatment or surgery which AIG Europe Assistance Services thinks is not immediately necessary and can wait until you return home.
  3. Any expenses for treatment or surgery carried out more than 12 months after the date of the incident which you are claiming for.
  4. The extra cost of single-or private-room accommodation unless it is medically necessary.
  5. Any treatment or medication of any kind that you receive after you return to the United Kingdom or Channel Islands.
  6. Pregnancy or childbirth where the expected date of delivery is within eight weeks of the end of your trip.
  7. Any claim arising for costs you have to pay, if you are travelling to Australia or New Zealand and you do not register for treatment under the national Medicare scheme of those countries if you become ill.
  8. Any extra costs after the time when, in our medical advisor's opinion, you are fit to be returned to the United kingdom or Channel Islands.

Section C - Personal accident

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£50,000) in the schedule to you or your executors or administrators if you are involved in an accident which causes you an injury which results in you becoming disabled within 12 months of the date of the accident for one of the following.
  1. Permanent total disability.
  2. Loss of a leg or foot.
  3. Loss of sight.
  4. Complete loss of use of an arm or hand.
  5. If you die, we will pay the amount shown in the schedule (£25,000 for adults £5,000 for children aged under 16 years of age).

Section D - Personal liability

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£2,000,000) in the schedule if you are legally liable for accidentally:
  1. injuring someone; or
  2. damaging or losing somebody else's property.
Special exclusions which apply to section D

What you are not covered for
We will not cover the following.
  1. The first £250 of each claim of each person
  2. Any liability arising from an injury or loss
    • of damage to property owned by you, a member of your family or
    • household or a person you employ; or
    • in the care, custody or control of you or of your family or household or a person you employ.
  3. Any liability, injury, loss or damage:
    • To your employees or members of your family or household or a person you employ;
    • arising out of or in connection with your trade, profession or business;
    • arising out of a contract you have entered into;
    • arising out of you owning, possessing, using or living on any land or in buildings except temporarily for the purposes of the trip;
    • arising out of you owning, possessing, or using mechanically-propelled vehicles, water craft (other than rowing boats, punts, or canoes) or air craft of any description, animals (other than horses, domestic cats, or dogs), firearms or weapons (other than guns being used for sport); or
    • arising out of any criminal, malicious or deliberate acts.
Special conditions which apply to section D

It is a condition of the cover provided under this section that
  1. you must give AIG Europe Claims Services notice of any cause for a legal claim against you as soon as you know about it and send them any other documents relating to any claim; and
  2. you must help AIG Europe Claims Services and give them all of the information they need to allow them to take action on your behalf. You must not negotiate, pay, settle, admit or deny any claim unless you get AIG Europe Claims Services written permission.

Section E - Legal expenses

What you are covered for
We will pay UP to the amount shown (£25,000) in the schedule for legal costs and expenses arising as a result of dealing with claims for compensation and damages resulting from your death, illness or injury during your trip.

Special exclusions which apply to section E

What you are not covered for
We will not cover the following.
  1. Any claim where we or our legal representatives believe that an action is not likely to be successful or if we believe that the costs of taking action will be greate than any award.
  2. The costs of making any claim against us, our agents or representatives or against any tour operator, carrier or any person with whom you have travelled or arranged to travel.
  3. Any costs or expenses which are based directly or indirectly on the amount of any award.
  4. The costs of following up a claim for bodily injury, loss or damage caused by or in connection with your trade, profession or business, under contract or arising out of you possessing, using or living on any land or in any buildings.
  5. Any claims arising out of you owning, possessing, or using mechanically- propelled vehicles, water craft or aircraft of any description, animals, firearms or weapons.
  6. Any claims arising out of your criminal, malicious or deliberate acts.
  7. The first £250 of each claim, for each person claiming.

Special conditions which apply to section E

It is a condition of the cover provided under this section that:
  1. we will have complete control over any legal representatives appointed and any proceedings:
  2. you follow our advice or that of our agents in handling any claim; and
  3. where possible, you must get back all of our expenses. You must pay us any expenses you do get back.

Section F - Journey continuation
(This section does not apply for trips within the United kingdom, except for trips to the Channel Islands).

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£250) in the schedule for the reasonable extra costs of travel and accommodation you need if you cannot reach the original departure point of your booked journey on the outward, onward, or return journey because public transport services fail or the vehicle in which you are travelling is involved in an accident, breaks down or is subject to a documented and publicised severe traffic jam.

Special exclusions which apply to section F

What you are not covered for
We will not cover the following.
  1. Any claim which is the result of a strike or industrial action which you knew about before you started your trip.

Special conditions which apply to section F

It is a condition of the cover provided under this section that:
  1. you must allow enough time to arrive at your departure point at or before the recommended time:
  2. you must get confirmation of the reason for the delay and how long it lasts from the appropriate authority; and
  3. if your claim relates to a vehicle breaking down, you must give us evidence that the vehicle was properly serviced and maintained and that any recovery or repair was made by a recognised breakdown organisation.

Section G - Personal belongings, baggage and money

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£2,0O0)in the schedule for the following.

G1 - Personal belongings and baggage
We will pay for the following.
  1. After taking off an amount for wear, tear and loss of value, we will pay for the loss, thefi of or damage to property owned by you with a limit for any one item, set or pair of £500.
  2. After taking off an amount for wear, tear and loss of value, we will pay for loss, theft of or damage to valuable items that you own. We will pay up to £750.
  3. We will pay up to £100 (this may be increased to £500 if authorised by AIG Europe Assistance Services prior to expenditure) for buying essential items if yourbaggage is delayed or lost during an outward journey for more than 10 hours. You must get written confirmation of the length of the delay and receipts for any items that you buy. We will take any payment we make for delayed baggage from the amount of any claim if your baggage is permanently lost.
  4. We will pay for loss, theft of or damage to any goods which are purchased in a duty free shop on the return leg of your journey, up to a maximum of £200.
We Will pay for loss, theft of or damage to scuba equipmen~ for each independent piece up to a maximum of £1,000 for any single item and an aggregate maximum of£2,000 overall, except if damage or loss occurs while equipment is in use.
We will pay up to a maximum of £250 in golfequipment hire expenses, during your trip, if incurred as a direct result of accidental loss, theft of or damage to your golf equipment.


G2 - Personal money
We will pay for the following.
  1. We will pay up to the amount shown (£1,000) in the schedule for the loss or theft of cash, or traveller's cheques, if you can give us evidence that you owned them and evidence of their value. We will pay only up to £500 for cash.

G3 - Passport and travel documents
We will pay for the following.
  1. We will pay up to the amount shown (£250) in the schedule for the cost of replacing your passport, travel tickets, lift passes, Green Cards and admission tickets.
Note
We provide cover for theft or loss from unattended motor vehicles, trailers or caravans under sub-section Gland G3 only. We will only pay up to £100 for each person, except where goods are locked and properly secured in the boot 0, glove compartment of a vehicle and are not in plain sight.

Breakage of fragile articles (including china, glass, sculpture and video equipment) or sports equipment whilst in use (other than ski equipment, when the appropriate winter sports premium has been paid and is noted on the Certificate) )unless being transported by a carrier and damage due to fire or other accident tc the sea vessel, aircraft, or vehicle they are being carried in.
  3. Theft, loss of or damage to pedal cycles, motor vehicles, marine equipment (excluding scuba equipment) and craft.
  4. Wear and tear, loss of value, mechanical or electrical breakdown or damage caused by any process of cleaning, repairing or restoring, or damage caused by leaking powder or fluid carried within your baggage.
  5. Shortages due to mistakes or neglect.
  6. Any loss or theft which you do not report to the police within 24 hours of discovering it and which you do not get a written acknowledgment for.
  7. If your belongings are delayed or held by any customs or other officials legally taking your belongings.
  8. Cash which you do not carry on your person (unless it is held in a safety deposit box or safe that is not in your hotel room or apartment), unless it is stolen and you are in the room while it is stolen.
  9. Theft, loss or damage to photographic, electrical equipment orjewellery not carried in your hand baggage while you are travelling.
  10. Theft, loss of or damage to dentures, bridgework, cornea lenses, spectacles, sunglasses or artificial limbs or hearing aids.
  11. Any item, set or pair worth more than £50 which you haven't got an original receipt, insurance valuation obtained prior to loss or cannot provide other acceptable evidence of ownership for before the loss,
  12. Property you leave unattended in a public place.
  13. Any loss, theft or damage to items carried on a vehicle roof rack, unless they are locked and secured to the roof of the vehicle.
  14. Theft, loss or damage to baggage or personal belongings during a journey unless you report this to the carrier and get a property irregularity report at the time of the loss.
  15. Damage caused to suitcases, holdalls or similar carriers unless you cannot use the damaged item.
  16. Loss or theft of personal belongings or baggage while not in your control or while in the control of any person other than an airline or carrier.

Section H - Cancelling and cutting short your holiday.

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£5,000) in the schedule for travel and accommodation expenses that you have paid or have agreed to pay under a contract and which you cannot get back if it is necessary and unavoidable for you to cancel or cut short your trip or any local pre-paid excursions as a result of the following.
  1. Your, becoming ii, injured or dying.
  2. The death, injury or illness of a relative, close business associate or a person with whom you have booked to travel or a relative or friend living abroad with whom you plan to stay
  3. If you are called for jury service or as a witness or you are put in quarantine.
  4. An accident to a vehicle in which you were planning to travel which happens within seven days before the date you planned to leave which leaves the vehicle unusable (this applies to self-drive holidays only).
  5. If you are a member of the armed forces or police, fire, nursing or ambulance services which results in you having to stay because of an emergency.
  6. If you are made redundant as long as you are entitled to payment under the current redundancy payments law and that, at the time of booking your trip, you had no reason to believe that you would be made redundant.
  7. If the police need you to remain in the UK after a fire, flood or burglary at your home or place of business within 72 hours before the date you planned to leave.
  8. If you or your partner is pregnant and labour begins prior to eight weeks before the expected due date and this early labour prevents you from travelling.

Special exclusions which apply to section H

What you are not covered for
We will not cover the following.
  1. Jhe first £40 of each claim, or £10 for each loss of deposit, for each person.
  2. Any claim which results from depression, anxiety, mental disorder, or a depressive illness of any type.
  3. You not wanting to travel.
  4. Any extra costs resulting from you not telling the holiday company as soon as you know you have to cancel your holiday.
  5. Pregnancy, if your expected date of delivery is within eight weeks of the end of your trip.
  6. Cancelling or cutting short the trip because of a medical condition or any illness related to a medical condition which you knew about or should have known about before the start of this insurance. This applies to you, a relative, close business associate or person yoL are travelling with and any person you were depending on for the trip. Unless you have declared that condition to AIG Europe and we have accepted that condition fo insurance and any additional premium quoted by the screening service has been paid to cover that condition.
  7. The cost of your original return trip if this has already been paid and you need to cut short your journey.
  8. If you have to cut short your trip and do not return to the United Kingdom or Channel Islands.

Section I - Abandoning your holiday and travel delay

What you are covered for
We will pay if the start of your pre-booked outward or return international journey by aircrafl, sea vessel or cross-channel train is delayed, due to circumstances outside your control. You must be delayed by at least eight hours on each occasion.

Travel delay
(This section does not apply for trips within the United Kingdom, except for trips to and from the Channel Islands).


We will pay the amount shown(£10) in the schedule after each full eight-hour period of delay, as long as you eventually go on the trip. We will pay up to the amount shown (£100) in the schedule.

Abandonment
If it is necessary for you to have to cancel your outward trip as a result of a delay lasting more than 24 hours, we will pay an amount equal to the cost of your trip up to the amount shown in the schedule (£5,000) less any amounts that we can get back.

Special exclusion which applies to section I

What you are not covered for
We will not cover the following.
  1. The first £40 of each claim for each person for abandonment.
  2. Any claim that results from strikes or industrial action which were public knowledge before the start of your trip.

Special conditions which apply to Section I

It is a condition of the cover provided under this section that:
  1. you must have checked in for your trip at or before the recommended time; and
  2. you get a written statement from the appropriate transport company or authority confirming the reason for the delay and how long it lasted.

Section J - Hospital benefit
(This section does not apply for trips within the United Kingdom.)

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£10 per 24hour period up to a maximum of £1,000) in the schedule after an accident or illness that is covered under Section A (Medical and other expenses) of this insurance, you go into hospital as an in-patient outside the United Kingdom or Channel Islands. We will pay the amount shown in the schedule for each complete 24-hour period. Benefit ceases if hospitalisation continues back in the UK or Channel Islands.

Note
The amounts we will pay under this section are meant to help you pay extra expenses such as taxi fares and phone calls.

Section K - Mugging

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£50 per 24 hour period up to £1000) in the schedule if you suffer an injury and go into hospital as an in-patient as the result of a mugging attack as long as you report the incident to the police within 12 hours and get a police report. We will pay the amount shown in the schedule for each complete 24-hour period.

This benefit is in addition to benefits payable under Section J.

Section L - Hijack

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£50) in the schedule for each full 24-hour period if the aircraft or sea vessel in which you are travelling is hijacked on the original, prebooked journey for a period over 24 hours. We will only pay up to the amount shown(£2,500) in the schedule.


Special exclusion which applies to section L

What you are not covered for
We will not cover the following.
  1. Any claim resulting from you acting in a way which could cause a claim under this section.

Special condition which applies to section L

It is a condition of the cover provided under this section that:
  1. You must give us a written statement from an appropriate authority confirming the hijack and how long it lasted.

Section M - Disaster

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown(£500) in the schedule for the cost of providing other similar accommodation if your booked accommodation cannot be lived in because of a fire, flood, earthquake, storm or avalanche.


Special exclusions which apply to section M

What you are not covered for
We will not cover the following.
  1. The first £40 of each claim, for each person.
  2. Any expenses that you can get back from any tour operator, airline, hotel or other provider of services.
  3. Any expenses that you would normally have to pay during the period shown on your schedule.
  4. Any claim resulting from you travelling against the advice of the appropriate national or local authority.

Special conditions which apply to section M

It is a condition of the cover provided under this section that;
  1. you must give us a written statement from an appropriate public authority confirming the reason and nature of the disaster and how long it lasted;
  2. any event that results in a claim under this section wa~ not known about before you left from your internationa departure point; and
  3. you must give us evidence of all the extra costs you had to pay.

Section N - Piste closure
(This only applies if you purchased winter sports cover and is applicable only for the period 15 December to 15 ApriL)

What you are covered for

We will pay up to the amount shown in the schedule (£300) l{ as a result of not enough snow in your pre-booked holiday resort, all lift systems are closed for more than 24 hours. We will pay for either:
  1. the cost of transport to the nearest resort up to £20 for each full 24-hour period; or
  2. up to £30 for each full 24-hour period if you are unable to ski and there is no other ski resort available.

Special conditions which apply to section N

It is a condition of the cover provided under this section that:
  1. you get a written statement from the management of the resort confirming the reason for the closure and how long it lasted;
  2. the pre-booked holiday resort where you are staying is at least 1000 meters above sea level; and
  3. if you buy this insurance within 14 days of the date you plan to leave, that you have no public or first hand knowledge about any reason that could cause you to claim under this section. If you do then we will not provide cover for you.

Section O - Avalanche cover

What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown (£200) in the schedule for reasonable extra travel and accommodation expenses that you need to pay if your pre-booked outward or return journey is delayed for more than 12 hours from your scheduled arrival time because of an avalanche.

Section P - Ski hire

What you are covered for
We will pay the amount shown in the schedule (£300) for each full 24-hour period for the costs of hiring other ski equipment. We will pay if:
  1. the skis that you own are lost or delayed during your trip for over 12 hours; or
  2. the skis that you own are lost or damaged during the course of your trip.

Special exclusions which apply to section P

What you are not covered for
We will not cover the following.
  1. Any claim involving damage to your skis where you do not bring them back to the United Kingdom or Channel Islands so we can inspect them.
  2. Any theft or loss which you do not report to the police within 24 hours of discovering it and getting a written acknowledgment.
  3. Any theft, delay, loss of or damage to personal belongings or baggage while it is transported unless you report this, at the time, to the carrier and get a property irregularity report.

Special condition which applies to section P

It is a condition of the cover provided under this section that:
  1. We take any payment made under this section from any claim under sub-section Gi (Personal belongings and baggage) of this insurance.

Section Q - Ski Pack

What you are covered for
We will cover you for a proportion of the cost of your ski pack (if you have already paid and can't get the money back) if you are ill or injured while you are on holiday and you are medically certified as being unable to use it. Ski pack consists of ski school, ski hire and the cost of any lift pass. The most we will pay for each insured person is £200 a week and no more than £400 altogether.

Section R - Scheduled Airline Failure

What you are covered for

We will pay up to £3,000 in the event of financial failure of an airline for the following.

Before your trip, we will pay for:
  1. Any expenses that you have paid or agreed to pay under a contract that are not part of a package holiday and you cannot get back from any other source.
At the start of your trip, we will pay for:
  1. The costs of replacing your flight arrangements to a similar standard so that you are able to continue your trip or;
  2. The cost of a return flight to the United Kingdom or Channel Islands to a similar standard if you need to cut short your trip


Special Exclusions which apply to section R

What you are not covered for:

We will not cover the following.
  1. Any flight that is not booked in the United kingdom or Channel Islands
  2. Any flight that is not booked through a TTA Member or an ATOL holder or direct with a scheduled airline.
  3. The financial failure of:
    1. any scheduled airline that was in Chapter 11 (US Code, Title 11-Bankruptcy) at the time you bought this insurance or booked your ticket;
    2. any scheduled airline that holds another bond or insurance (even if that bond or insurance is not enough to pay the claim in full) or;
    3. any travel agent, tour operator, booking agent or flight consolidator arranging your booking(The failure of TTA Members is covered under Section 5)
  4. Any claim if you knew, at the time you bought this insurance, about any reason that could cause a claim under this section.

Section S - Safe Seat Plan

Insuring Clause
This policy indemnifies against direct financial loss suffered by You, as a result of a fraud or dishonesty, sustained by You in connection with any sums paid to a member of the Travel Trust Association to purchase any component services (as defined by S13288 the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tour Regulations 1992) arranged by the member of the Travel Trust Association on Your behalf.


DEFINITIONS

Fraud or Dishonesty
Any act of fraud or dishonesty must be committed with the manifest intent to cause You to sustain a loss or to result in an improper personal gain by any other person or organisation for whom such improper personal gain was intended.

Member of Travel Trust Association
Any company, partnership or entity that has satisfied the requirements of both S13288 the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 and the Travel Trust Association Limited and as such is both an appointed travel agent carrying the applicable practicing certificate and is a fully paid up member of the Travel Trust Association Limited.

Insured
The purchaser of any component services defined by S13288 the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992, arranged by a member of the Travel Trust Association Limited.


Special Conditions which Apply to Section S
  1. The Terms, Conditions and Exclusions of this policy shall be determined in accordance with English Law.
  2. This policy will only cover against loss due to insolvency of any member of the Travel Trust Association Limited where such insolvency is caused wholly or partially by any act of fraud or dishonesty as defined.
  3. Knowledge or discovery occurs when You become aware of facts which would cause a reasonable person to believe that a loss covered by this policy has been or will be incurred, even though the exact amount of details of the loss may not then be known,
  4. Upon knowledge or discovery of a loss or of an occurrence which may give rise to a claim for loss, You shall,
    1. Give notice thereof as soon as practicable to: TTA Claims Dept. Parkway House, Sheen Lane, East Sheen, London, SW14 8LS or phone 0181 8764458. b) Provlde details of all relevant payment(s) made to the member of Travel Trust Association Limited to the Insurers within six (6) months after the knowledge or discovery or loss, or within such further period as agreed to in writing by the Insurers.
  5. Upon request, You shall produce for the Insurers all pertinent records at such reasonable times and places as the Insurers shall designate and shall co-operate with the Insurers in all matters pertaining to loss or claims with respect thereto.
  6. The Loss payable hereunder shall be deemed to be no more than the original amounts paid over by You to the member of Travel Trust Association Limited, subject to a maximum limit of £11,000 less any amount otherwise recoverable.
  7. The payment of any loss under this policy shall not reduce the Insurers liability for other losses, provided, however that the maximum liability of the Insurers shall not exceed the amount set forth in the schedule.
  8. If any difference shall arise as to the amount to be paid under this policy (liability being otherwise admitted) such difference shall be referred to an arbitrator to be appointed by the parties in accordance with the statutory provisions in that behalf for the time being in force. Where any difference is by this condition to be referred to arbitration the making of an award shall be a conditions precedent to any right of action against the Insurers.
  9. In the event of a payment of a claim hereunder to You, the Insurers shall be subrogated to all of Your rights If You make any claim knowing the same to be false or fraudulent, as regards amount or otherwise, this policy shall be void and all claims hereunder shall be forfeited.


EXCLUSIONS

The insurance provided by this policy excludes;
Consequential loss or loss of potential income including, but not limited to interest not realized by You because of a loss covered by this policy, Costs, fees and other expenses incurred by You in establishing the existence of or amount of loss covered under this policy.
