Millions of Britons booking holidays

Millions of people are planning to book holidays between the start of the year and the end of February, as the winter blues begin to kick in and Britons look abroad, according to new figures.

One UK travel insurer has estimated some 15.44 million people plan to book a trip abroad over the first two months of the year, with the majority of these coming from the major cities of London, Birmingham and Manchester.

And as the skies get greyer and the cold snap begins to hit, it's no wonder many people are looking at locations such as the south of France to head away to.

Although southern France doesn't have a tropical climate, the spring months tend to offer much more generous amounts of sunshine than the gloomy cities in England, making it a favourite for cultural sun-seekers,

The cities of Marseille and Nice are ideal for shopping and sightseeing, while the stunningly beautiful French town of Aix-en-Provence is a magnet for tourists, couples and travellers alike.

And with cheap flights leaving the UK in increasing numbers to locations such as Nice and Marseille, it's no wonder the British public are scanning their holiday brochures and snapping up the cheap deals in January and February.
