| Nice city break | Nice was once the city that drew France's upper crust, but today while the sophistication remains it is a little more accessible.
The best place to start on a break in Nice is the seafront and the Promenade des Anglais, the harbour with its mixture of fishing vessels and great yachts and, of course, the Mediterranean itself and the Baie des Anges (the Bay of the Angels).
From here it is easy to stroll into the heart of the city to find its 19 museums, 32 historical monuments and over 300 hectare of gardens, woodlands and green spaces.
Nearby the harbour, the Quartier Segurane, Nice's equivalent of Notting Hill, is famed for its boutiques and flea markets. In the evening it is also a great place to enjoy with lively bars and cafes.
The best views of Nice can be found by heading up to the city's chateau. Little of the 11th century castle and its cathedral still stand today, except a few walls and the area is now a public park which stands over the city.
Of the city's many museums, perhaps the most visited is the Matisse Museum in the artist's former home. The artist's personal collection is on display chronicling his progressive from his youth to old age through his art.
